In the first chapters of Genesis God creates the perfect paradise. Man is placed in the garden and given control over everything God created. But Adam and Eve rebelled and disobeyed God, choosing to eat the fruit they were told to stay away from. From there things quickly unraveled. Just four chapters into the story, the sin of disobedience has devolved into murder. How did things go so bad so quickly? The Lord Himself summed it up in verse seven. "If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it." But Cain did not rule over his sin of anger; it ruled and consumed him. It drove him to murder his brother Abel. We are no different from Cain. The same principle God stated then is true now. If we do what is right, we will be accepted. We have to rule over sin or it will control us and drive us into more sin, sin that consumes us. Fortunately we don't have to fight sin on our own; we have help!
