Sometimes the bible has some complex teaching that seems difficult. Some of what Paul has talked about in the last few chapters is hard to grasp. What does it mean to be pre-destined? Scholars have debated it since the ink dried on Paul’s letter. But what Paul writes in Chapter 13 is as plain and obvious as it gets. It is simple and easy to understand, but no less difficult! It’s difficult because we may not like it. Paul says “Everyone must submit themselves to governing authorities” and “there is no authority except that which God has established.” We are called to respect authority and to love our neighbor as ourselves. How’s that going for you?
