Paul has spent much of his letter telling us what God has, done and is doing. Toward the end of his letter, he shifts the focus on how we should live. He has told us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices to God and to show respect to those in positions of authority. Last week, in the second half of chapter 13, Paul turned us toward the command to “love your neighbor as yourself.” Chapter 14 is a continuation of that command and talks about tolerating differences in followers of Jesus. The freedom we enjoy as Christ-followers can lead to tension; we don’t have the rigid laws and regulations that define everything we do. Paul tells us we will give an account for ourselves, not for others. So, let’s talk more about that.
