John the Baptist was an interesting person. He was wild and unconventional. He drew large crowds. People asked if he was Elijah. They asked him if he was the coming Messiah. To each of those questions, he firmly said, "No, I am not." When they pressed him further by asking, "Well who are you?" he simply said, "I am a voice calling out in the wilderness, 'Clear the way for the Lord's coming!'" John knew his role. It was to announce the coming of Jesus. His purpose was to prepare people and to draw attention to Jesus and not to himself. That's our role today. We live in a wilderness - a culture that is lost. Jesus is coming back and we need to prepare as many people as we can. Be the voice in the wilderness.
